Football Sub Club
The Waves Football Club (Soccer) is a sporting club with both junior and senior teams and game season training and competition matches and celebrates its 56th year this year and was one of the two founding sporting clubs which indirectly established The Waves Sports Club in 1958. From strength to strength the footy club has come, boasting over 300 active, playing members to date and fielding 30 teams with players as young as five years of age right up to its senior players. The club’s two great and most recent achievements are the development of both Mitch Langerak and Josh Brillante who since progressed to the international arena, joining Dortmund and AFC Fiorentina teams respectively. Both players also qualified for the most recent 2014 World Cup Socceroo squad, with Mitch positioned as reserve keeper.
The club’s teams consist of both junior and seniors of mixed sex beginning with the U6 to U11 Miniroos through to competition teams of U12 to senior Waves' teams. Senior teams consist of division 1 and 2 for women and division 1, 2 and 3, and U19 Colts for men.
Training and competition games occur most days of the week depending on the team. Juniors train from Monday to Thursday with competition on Saturdays, women train at 6.00pm, Monday and Wednesday with competition games held on Friday evenings, and men train at 6.30pm, Monday and Thursday with competition games held on Tuesday evenings for U19, Friday nights for division 3 with all remaining comp games on Saturday. All training occurs at The Waves Sports Club’s Thabeban Street Sports Complex Field.
Membership fees are set each year by Bundaberg Football Association and as such, vary each year. Upon payment junior players can expect all training, coaching, field use and team shirt but are expected to supply own boots, shin guards, socks and shorts. Senior players of 19 years and older are supplied all of the above.
Sign on for all ages is done online and is held in the first week of every January with juniors required to be turning of minimum of five years of age within that same year of registration. It is also encouraged that those wishing to register do so with haste, as each year members of the public are unfortunately denied entry due to capacity numbers always being met. Girls U15 and U16 are the exception, with the club actively seeking as many new members of this team category as possible. The Across the Waves Football Club also welcomes parents for junior level assistance and offer coaching and accreditation courses to those who wish to volunteer.
